Osmium – The Odd One Out

Only osmium of all the precious metals has failed to find significant new uses in industry.

 
Used in fountain pen nibs and needles in record players, demand has fallen as these products have become almost obsolete with the introduction of new alternatives.

 
At the present time all the other PGMs (platinum group metals) have seen significant price rises over the last few years and with every likelihood of their bull market continuing as demand increases and, in some cases, production falls – not so osmium!
